Frequently asked questions

Find out the answers to our customers' most common questions about solar.

Who is Make My House Green?

Make My House Green is a provider of revolutionary tech for solar price quotations. We work in partnership with them to reach out to potential solar customers, and help them work out whether going solar is the right move for them and their household.

How long will it take to install my new solar panels?

Your solar panel installation should only take a single day. Should the system require more than 20 panels then it may take longer, but the installers will keep you informed.

In some cases, electrical work may need to be carried out at a later stage, but every effort will be made to get it done as quickly as possible. We pride ourselves on keeping things easy and hassle-free!

Can solar panels be installed on a slate roof?

This is not usually a problem at all. The set-up should be the same, but if Solar Limpets are used then there would be an additional cost. The team will talk you through this when you're in the initial stages of deciding whether to go ahead with solar energy or not.

Is shading a problem for solar panels?

Shading does need to be considered because it will affect the system's overall performance. This will be discussed during the initial stages, but we have solutions available should shading be an issue.

What size of solar panels are available?

The most common size we use is 390W, which we believe offers the perfect combination of size, power and price. Bigger panels, such as the 410W, are going to be more expensive per kW, and they literally are bigger which can be an issue in some cases. If there is limited roof space available then it is possible that our team would recommend the bigger panels.

Is there an optimal angle for my solar panels?

35 degrees is often the optimal angle, but when we go through the initial discussions with you we'll be able to talk about whether this is different for your property.

Can I get a solar panel grant?

When you get your projection from us, you should get an indication of any grant or grants that might be available to you. This is just a guide but we do our best to provide accurate information. The team will also be able to talk to you more about grants.

Is there a warranty involved?

There is a workmanship warranty on every install, and that lasts for 2 years. You will be asked whether you are satisfied with the install as well, before the final payment is taken.

Is planning permission required?

You only require planning permission if the panels are being mounted on the ground, or if you live in either a listed building or a conservation area. You will need to find out whether you're in a conservation area yourself, which is easy enough to do online, as our model does not factor this in.

Will I need to organise regular maintenance of my solar panels?

This is not a requirement, although it is worth highlighting that if they get a bit dirty then it can affect performance. You can take a hose to them or let the rain do its job, but this would rarely be necessary. Do look out for anything in the warranty around personal maintenance, just to check that giving them a clean doesn't void anything.

Our mission to grow green energy

At My Solar Prices, our mission is simple: to expand the reach and accessibility of green energy across the UK. We believe that every rooftop has the potential to be a powerhouse of clean, renewable energy.

By simplifying the process of exploring solar panel cost and savings, we're not just helping individuals spend less on energy, we're fostering a community committed to sustainable living. We've heavily invested in advanced tech that is designed to ensure exceptional accuracy, and provide real insight into the benefits for each individual household. People are often surprised by the huge difference solar can make to their homes, and also how simple it is to install.

Join us on our journey as we help the UK towards a greener, cleaner future.

The UK is going solar

Across the country, more and more homes are turning to solar energy as a primary power source. The enormous sustainability benefit is now backed by the increasing cost-effectiveness of the technology. It's becoming even more economical, and that's why we're seeing such a surge in interest and installation.

Government incentives, decreasing installation costs, and rising awareness about environmental issues are making solar panels a top choice for energy-smart homeowners.

On top of this, the minimal requirement for maintenance makes them a very attractive prospect for busy families. An annual service is recommended, and a clean once a decade (no, that's not a typo). Aside from that, remove obvious dangers like branches, and your solar panels are in a great place for the long-term.

The positive effects of solar energy

Non-renewable energy sources, such as coal and oil, are not only limited, they come at an environmental and social cost. The burning of fossil fuels is a major source of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, leading to global climate change.

This environmental impact leads to rising global temperatures, altered weather patterns, and increased frequency of extreme weather events, which pose significant risks to natural ecosystems and human societies alike.

Transitioning to renewable energy sources is seen not only as a solution to environmental issues but also as an opportunity to create a more equitable global energy landscape.

Embracing solar energy for your home comes with a host of benefits. Environmentally, it reduces the reliance on fossil fuels, decreasing your carbon footprint and combating air pollution. Economically, it cuts energy bills and can increase property value.

But the impact goes beyond that - it's about creating a sustainable world for future generations. Solar energy represents a clean, inexhaustible power source that promotes a healthier planet. By choosing solar, you're not just saving money, you're investing in the planet's future.

Why is My Solar Prices different?

We've really tried to build a platform that gives you exactly what you need without any hassle or complications. We have done extensive testing and come up with the ideal questions that cover what we need, whilst also ensuring you're not spending too long answering them. It should feel streamlined and simple, because that's the key to driving solar forward.

No-one wants disruption to their lives and people are busy with work and families; however, if the financial benefit is easy to gauge, and you can get assurances on the simplicity and speed of installation, then solar suddenly becomes an appealing prospect that really makes sense.

There are plenty of options out there, but we really think our optimised customer journey, personalised quotation technology and excellent panel of installers put us right at the top.
